Using the arts as a medium to inspire creativity, unlock potential, and transform the lives of students of all ages.
For more than 25 years, Creative Action has supported students of all ages in becoming creative artists, courageous allies, critical thinkers, and confident leaders through high-quality arts education. From after school programs, interactive classroom performances, and unique summer camp experiences, to memorable community events, public art projects, and arts programming for older adults, Creative Action strives to increase equity, belonging, and joy in our society.
As one of the largest employers of local artists in Austin, their teaching artists contribute their skills, experience, and passion for the arts to provide learning opportunities that are incredibly valuable, engaging, and fun for students.
Creative Action’s community events draw hundreds of families from around Central Texas and provide opportunities for them to partake in intergenerational arts workshops and activities with other local organizations.
One of their more popular community partnerships is with CapMetro. Referred to as Art on the Bus, elementary school students participate in an annual contest where students can win an opportunity to have their sustainable inspired artwork displayed on CapMetro’s electric buses throughout the city.
Creative Action’s School-Based programs engage students, grades Pre-K through 5th, in solving real-world problems through role-play, puppetry, song and movement. Students actively learn how to build connection, community, and belonging both inside and outside the classroom.
Their After School program and day camps engage students in visual art, filmmaking, acting, and more with the intention of developing social and emotional skills.
Their teen programs provide young people with the safe space for discussing topics related to social justice, opportunities for learning from educators and experts, and artistic outlets for communicating their feelings through theater, public art, and more.
And Chroma Collective, a program designed for teen program alumni, supports young artists in becoming artistic leaders who are dedicated to place-keeping practices and creating artwork that uplifts the voices of our community.
